There's a light breeze blowing off the Pacific, and waves crash on the beach less than a half mile away as James Corner, ASLA, settles into a patio chair at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica, California. He's in town for the opening of Tongva Park and Ken Genser Square, two new landscapes his firm, James Corner Field Operations (JCFO), designed for Santa Monica's civic center. At the moment, however, Corner is talking about the High line.
