Composite Channel Design Keeps Boulder City Golfers on the Green

Nestled between the glitz of Las Vegas and the awe of the Hoover Dam, visitors find charming Boulder City, Colorado. Home to just over 14,000 residents, Boulder City owes much of its small town appeal to a city law enacted in 1979 that restricts growth to less than 4 percent annually. Despite its small population, Boulder City boasts an 18-hole par 72 championship golf course featuring a driving range, practice chipping green and 5,000-sq ft club house. The 30-year-old course has beautiful tree-lined fairways and several integral water features. Host to the Boulder City Open, it was designed by Billy Casper and David Rainville and is managed by the Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department. The golf course property is part of the city's flood plain master plan, so Boulder City Public Works contacted Dan Bender of VTN Nevada in the fall of 2001 to create a design that would fit into the larger master plan network that had already been implemented or was scheduled to be implemented in the future.
