Inarguably, aeration creates a more balanced ecology in a lake by having aerobic bacteria decompose organic matter more quickly than anaerobic bacteria. This should logically limit unwanted algae growth. As with most studies, new questions often pop up: Was aeration and/or the introduction of enzymes and bacteria the reason for water quality improvement, or was it the absence of carp after the fish kill?
