In Public Libraries and Internet Service Roles, McClure and Jaeger attempt to summarize research on the impact of the Internet on public libraries' social roles, offer strategies for new roles, advance scholarly discourse on the issue, and "foster thinking about Internet access, services, and training in libraries from a broad social perspective" (vii). The first six chapters examine the social and service roles of public libraries and discuss how the roles of public libraries, as defined by the Public Library Association in 2007, only tangentially mention how much the Internet has affected them (13).
