This is the sixth in a series of articles on developing fabric design ideas using a Weft Bedford Cord Weave Structure, multiple-sectioned sample blanket, published in The Journal for Weavers, Spinners and Dyers No 214 (June 2005). The sampler described below was woven to experiment with colour mixes using the classic Weft Bedford Cord weave structure. Because colours in weaving very rarely show as areas of pure colour I think it is the most difficult area in design. The very nature of the weaving process, the way the warp and weft interlace at right angles, means that colour in weaving is always a mix in the way the Pointillist painters of the late nineteenth century painted.
