Natural Dyeing Sampler: exhibited at the 2012 National Exhibition

Having demonstrated natural dyeing at shows and open days for 20 years, I was told in 2010 by the council safety officers that I could no longer use my Calor Gas stove in public demonstrations. As the dyeing demonstrations had always been a good opening for discussion with members of the public, I wanted an alternative display which would capture attention. The natural dyeing sampler was my response. The sampler is in the form of a hanging combining my expertise in machine embroidery with experimental natural dyeing, and is a way of recycling the wool blankets which we no longer use in the age of duvets.
