In 2014, the Norfolk Countryside Guild celebrated its 35th Anniversary. To mark the occasion a day's outing was arranged on 3 April 2014 to explore the rich textile heritage of Norwich and Norfolk. The day was planned to perfection in conjunction with Cathy Terry, Senior Curator, Social History, Norfolk Museums & Archaeology Service. Our group's first session was at the Museum of Norwich at Bridewell, and centred on the fully restored nineteenth century Jacquard loom. The museum worked with Richard Humphries, a leading specialist silk and worsted weaver, to plan and execute the restoration and provide a working loom which could be operated using a specially trained team. We were treated to a demonstration by Nick Wiseman-Ellis, who gave us a wonderful insight into the world of the nineteenth century weavers.
