Coal, Cotton, Canals: National Exhibition 2020

The Association's North West Region and Online Guilds have been very fortunate to secure exhibition space for the 2020 National Exhibition at Leigh Spinners Mill, which is one of the finest mill buildings in the country and listed Grade 2. Begun in 1913 and completed in 1925, it is a complete complex with two almost identical mills, two engine houses, two boiler houses, a chimney and a mill lodge. The original steam engine in Mill Two is one of the largest surviving in the UK, and the last to operate a mill. Leigh Spinners Mill is the largest building in Leigh and almost 10,000 people have worked there since it opened. It remains in the original ownership and is still in use for manufacturing carpets and artificial grass.
