Mathieu Flonneau's book is original and stimulating in more ways than one. To begin, the author approaches the topic— the art of driving—from a historical perspective, making the driver (not the car) the focus of his investigation, and, better still, driving know-how and how it has developed over time. From the get-go the author divulges his position as a driving aficionado, warning that certain praise and some of what he presents as 'charm' may be unthinkable to the reader, or even elicit a negative reaction. This book indeed looks at the problem of road rage and automobile-related accidents.
