Growing Public Transport Patronage And What Has Been Found To Work -an Introduction

The following four papers are selected from workshops held as part of the Tenth International Conference on Competition and Ownership in Land Passenger Transport (known as Thredbo 10) held in Hamilton Island, Queensland, Australia in August 2007. The workshops concerned the subject 'Growing patronage - challenges and what has been found to work' and focus on approaches to growing patronage in urban public transport systems. The Thredbo series of conferences has been held biennially since the first conference in Thredbo, Australia in 1989. The objective of the conference series is to provide an international forum to examine passenger transport competition and ownership issues, reporting on recent research and experience and developing conclusions on key issues. More recently the conference series has been exploring wider issues in urban public transport provision including patronage growth.
