Design for Transport: A User-centred Approach to Vehicle Design and Travel

This book is part of the Design for Social Responsability series, a series initiated in 2007, and which has up till now ten volumes. The series arose because social responsibility became a recurring theme in design. The basic idea is that all design decisions have environmental, social and ethical impacts, and hence, there is a pressing need to provide guidelines for designers and design students to take a more holistic approach to attain a more socially responsible design. The series is thus aimed at students of design, product development, architecture and marketing, and design and management professionals working in the sectors covered by the book's title. Previous volumes focused on design for inclusivity, sustainability, micro-utopias, sport, services, against crime, healthcare, development, policy, and now also, design for transport. Transport here is reduced to the book's subtitle: it refers to a user-centred approach towards vehicle design and travel. As a result, the chief editor, and the chapter contributors are all active in the field of industrial or product design. The chief product here is the transport mode and infrastructure.
