Moisture transport through multi-layered clothing system is one of the most important aspect governing the comfort and performance of multi-layered clothing system. Moisture can be transported either in form of vapour and liquid. Behaviour of actual sweat can be different from test water used while evaluating the performance of multi-layered clothing system in seamed and un-seamed condition. It is seen that seamed fabrics when tested with sweat and water showed greater water vapour transmission rate as compared to un-seamed fabric. Unidirectional seam showed higher water vapour transmission rate. Drying rate of seamed fabric was also found higher as compared to unseamed fabrics. Sweat showed less drying rate than water. In all the cases of un-seamed and seamed layered ensembles, layered ensemble polyester spacer fabric as middle layer exhibit better water vapour permeability and drying rate properties with water and sweat both in comparison to layered ensemble with fleece fabric as middle layer. In case of water vapour transmission behaviour, impact of layered ensemble was predominant while in case of drying behaviour impact of solution type was found to be most significant.
