Tectonic and climatic shaping of the northern Andes and southern Caribbean margin

The northern Andes and southern Caribbean margin offer a unique opportunity to explore how sedimentary basins have formed from contractional, extensional, and strike-slip processes in diverse tectonic settings that change spatially and temporally from oceanic subduction, arc collision, underthrusting, and inversion tectonics. Given their tropical location, this region is also well suited for exploring the role of climate in shaping orogenic architecture and influencing the processes of weathering, transport, and deposition that ultimately govern the filling of syntec- tonic basins.
