Obituary: John Alan Symington (1974-2006)

When John Symington died on 24 June 2006, aged 31, after a short illness, the archives profession was robbed of a young and able recruit who would certainly have made a noteworthy contribution to his chosen profession. While the pages of 'The Society's Chronicle' in the JSA regularly record obituaries, noting long lives of archival achievement, and some that have been shortened by tragedy, John's early death in his second year of archival employment was shocking to all who knew him and devastating for his caring family, with whom he spent his final weeks. He was taken seriously ill at the beginning of May, with an untreatable condition, and died less than two months later.
