The building accounts of the Savoy Hospital, London, 1512-1520,

The Savoy takes its name from Peter of Savoy, uncle of Eleanor of Provence, the queen of Henry III. A Duchy of Lancaster property thereafter, it was John of Gaunt's palace when it was ransacked in 1381 during the Peasants' Revolt. Henry VII founded a hospital there which was in the process of being built shortly before his death and was completed by his executors, the main building work being over by c1515, with finishing touches being added until 1520. It was a large, complex site, with a cruciform structure 320 feet in length at its heart. By the early nineteenth century, the buildings on the site had deteriorated greatly and they were removed, except for the main chapel of the hospital, which is now the much-restored Queen's Chapel of the Savoy.
