How Serving Elders Transformed Me into the Rabbi I am Today

This essay reflects on the transformation, both personal and professional, that emerged through serving frail elders and studying aging as part of the rabbinical school curriculum. The author explores learning about hope from frail elders' openness to change; gaining comfort with coming out as a lesbian; and growing in facing mortality and overcoming denial of death, which has enabled her to be more present to the needs of those she serves.
