Shared Governance: The Key to Higher Education Equilibrium

摘要

The missions of most institutions of higher education have changed since the release of the American Association of University Professors academic freedom statement in 1966. Although generating and disseminating knowledge remains the core mission, other missions and demands have been placed on institutions by internal and external factors and constituencies. Using a 1-model-fits-all approach, many institutions have continued to use traditional governance models, regardless of the changes in their mission. This article provides an example of how interpersonal relationships can be used to create equilibrium in higher education.
