Mansfield to Doncaster via Shirebrook and Shireoaks

Although classified under the Country Railway Routes series, this book really covers an interlinking network of lines with different owners (some joint) mainly built as a result of the development of deep mining on the borders of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. The restoration of the Mansfield to Shireoaks section gives a good reason for several modern pictures alongside dirty locomotives and battered coal trucks. Many of the maps are fascinating, showing details that have often changed and are still changing - not least the collieries, most of which have been wiped from the map and their railways along with them.
