Change and modernity of Chinese Radio: A study in government-run radio of Kuomintang from 1928 to 1949

摘要

From 1928 to 1949, when mainland China was split into parts, each being governed by different political parties, radio was taking a rough and sketchy path of development in-between constant frictions and wars among the parts. As a modern means of mass communication and efficient delivery of information at the time, governments started to operate state-run radio stations and enact radio regulations. Their influence was unprecedented in Chinese history of radio communication. Li Yu's study looks closely into the government radio of Kuomintang (Nationalists Party of China, KMT) during that period, and discusses the uniqueness of its content, influence, communication model, and operational organization, filling the gap in Chinese history of radio communication. His research was based on archives, gazettes, books, and memoirs.
