Baseball and radio have been married since the medium's infancy. It is a marriage made in heaven. Before the days of radio, fans often had to wait until they got the next day's newspaper to find out if their favorite team won. Radio eliminated that time lag, at least for those who could pick up a signal that carried baseball. Because of cost, technological challenges and resistance from baseball owners, the first baseball broadcasts were recreations of games, which were based on condensed bits of information sent to the studios via telegraph.
