摘要

In this essay I would like to invite people to think about the sphere of influence of supervision in schools in the first decade of the new millennium. My hypotheses, which I discuss and illustrate through the use of scenes from group and individul supervision sessions, are: A) The workplace for teachers has reached a crisis; change is necessary and possible. B) This process is happening within the context of the pressure towards efficiency, conceptualized by the neoliberal movement. C) By setting norms, supervision is in danger of inadvertently subverting „the principle of self governance“ (here: the seemingly free adjusting of one’s life to business calculations) by supporting the efficiency requirement. The central questions, which I ask based on my experience of supervision practice, are thus: Which degrees of freedom for teachers emerge within the areas they discuss during supervision, and how is supervision in a position to strengthen these freedoms?
