摘要

The opportunity to work with Captain Orr during his deployment to Haiti provided the authors not only with an opportunity to assist in the application of engineering in an emergency situation but also to introduce the application into the classroom as an educational enrichment discussion for current students. The resulting professional development of all involved and the opportunity for professional service in an engineering and humanitarian emergency add additional compelling reasons for engineering programs to actively foster the development of close faculty-student relationships and to maintain contact once graduates depart the university.
