Social Security: The Unfinished Work

Unfinished Work is not a history of the U.S. Social Security program per se, nor is it intended to be a comprehensive guide to understanding the program. Rather, it chronicles the policy debate over the last several decades on how to make Social Security sustainable in light of the pressures of an aging population and looks at difficult decisions that must be made in the near future. The author, Chuck Blahous, has served as a Social Security advisor to two United States Senators. But his longest and most influential appointment was as the principal Social Security advisor to President George W. Bush during Bush's unsuccessful attempt to reform Social Security in 2005.
