Photolysis of diazo(3-thienyl)methane: a simple synthesis of a methylenecyclopropene

Methyulenecyclopropene and its derivatives are in gen- eral highly reactive species and have been the target of a number of syntheses. In solution, the parent com- pound was synthesized and characterized independently by Billups et al. And Staley and Norden in 1984. It is stable at tempeatures below-90 deg C but rapidly decom- poses above -75 deg C.
