In this paper, a wavelength division multiplexed based radio over fiber system has been studied including the effects of four wave mixing (FWM) crosstalk. Five different kinds of fibers have been employed offering different propagation parameters in the system. Crosstalk has been analyzed as a function of channel input power, channel spacing and transmission distance for standard single mode fiber, true wave (TW), true wave reduced slope (TW-RS), corning large effective area fiber (LEAF) and Alcatel Teralight. A comparison is drawn for FWM power for different fibers. Simulation is also carried out to show that FWM crosstalk reduces significantly after transmission over Corning LEAF fiber by 20 dB. Bit error rate (BER), and FWM optical power are also measured. It is found that FWM crosstalk gets minimized by the employment of Alcatel Teralight and corning LEAF fiber by 15 and 20 dB respectively. Thus, transmission on dispersive links using Corning LEAF can outperform other fibers over substantial transmission distances.
