This work surveys the use of French in Israel over the last few decades, drawing on a variety of studies - with different methods and types of informant - some of which were carried out as far back as the 1990s. The result is in some ways more like a collection of articles than a single unified work; some chapters can be read out of order and some can stand alone, although the authors do provide a general introduction and conclusion. The book will appeal to scholars interested in the complex linguistic situation of Israel, as well as to those more specifically concerned with French -notably, those interested in the transnational diaspora of French speakers which is referred to in French as la francophonie, represented by the OIF (Organisation Internationale de lafrancophonie). To those with little prior knowledge of its subject matter, it offers a thorough and useful introduction.
