摘要

Side weirs are water intake or discharge structures that discharge water from, e.g., a dam, an open channel to external environment for using flow control, or irrigation system. In this paper, to examine how the sill placed in different locations of the main channel effects a side-weir discharge performance, a three-dimensional (3D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model together with experimental results were used. In the numerical simulations, k-e turbulence model and volume of fluid (VOF) method were used. The hydrodynamics properties of flow on the sill were determined and effects on the discharge were discussed. It is seen that the using a sill located in a suitable place considerably increases outflow discharge of the side weir.
