THIBD PARTY INTERVENTION IN THE IINET LITIGATION IN AUSTRALIA

The iiNet case has been run against the backdrop of heated debates in a number of overseas jurisdictions about the role of ISPs and increasing calls from copyright owner interests for more active participation by ISPs in a graduated response to user infringement (for example a three strikes policy starting with a warning and building to suspension and termination of the user account). In Australia the Federal Government Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Conroy, has indicated the government has been "watching the case with interest."
