February 12, 2001 is the day that the music indus-- try, as we know it, began to crumble. Ironically, this is the same date that the music industry has long hailed as a significant victory. It is the date on which the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held that the peer-to-peer file sharing service Napster could be held liable for contributory and vicarious infringement of copyright.
