A small—scale explosion test was conducted to investigate the response of uniform solid circular aluminium cantilevers subjected to air-blast loading. The results of this investigation presented here, demonstrate that the cantilevers could be used as a mechanical gauge to monitor air-blast dynamic pressure. To predict the response of the cantilever to air-blast loading, impulsive, quasi-static and dynamic approach was considered. To incorporate the nonlinear behaviourin addition to conventional small deflection approach large deflection analysis (based on Euler-Bernoulli's equation) was carried out. An explosion test was conducted at the Pulau-Senang Prohibited Area, Singapore, to validate the analytical prediction on the response of aluminium cantilevers. In the test, thirty cantilever specimens each were exposed at three different distances (5m, 10m and 15 m) to four explosive charges of 20kg, 40kg, 60kg and 110kg net equivalent TNT charge weight detonation. Details of the experimental work and comparisons of measured and estimated response are presented.
