While the term telecommunications has been in existence for over 100 years, the term computer communications has only been in existence for just over 45 years. In part one of this two part article, Philip Kelly, formerly with BT looks back at the early days, when remote access for computers became possible and when computers began to communicate with each other. He examines the many options which were - and still are - being pursued.
