Despite all the interest and excitement in the potential of Smart Cities, progress to date has been slow. Whilst there are plenty of Smart City initiatives taking place, such as those in the UK and Italy (reviewed in our earlier paper in The Journal [1]) examples of successful pilots moving through to widespread adoption and commercial success are limited to say the least. Why is this? In our analysis, we believe part of the solution lies with achieving a clearer vision of funding, identification of common facilities and closer, more purposeful collaboration between the demand and supply sides of the market.
