A Novel Parallel Hybrid Improved Harmony Search Based on Center Reflection for Optimization Problems

This paper presents a novel Parallel Hybrid Improved Harmony Search (PHIHS) based on center reflection for solving continuous optimization problems. In the proposed PHIHS, a new improvisation scheme and center reflection are developed so that the good information captured in the harmony memory can be well utilized to update harmony memory. The Harmony Memory Consideration Rate (HMCR), Pitch Adjustment Rate (PAR) and distance Bandwidth (BW) are dynamically adjusted to favor exploration in the early stages and exploitation in the final stages. Extensive computational simulations and comparisons are carried out by employing a set of 5 benchmark problems. The computational results show that the proposed PHIHS algorithm is more effective in finding better solutions than the state-of-the-art harmony search variants.
