Batch adsorption studies were undertaken to investigate the feasibility of adsorption of arsenite [As(Ⅲ)] from aqueous solutions onto Iron Oxide Impregnated Sugarcane Bagasse (IOISB) adsorbent developed in the laboratory from sugarcane bagasse waste. The study aimed to determine operating condition of parameter that gives maximum uptake of As(Ⅲ) on IOISB adsorbent. The effect of the important parameters such as Adsorbent dose (0.5-10 g/ l), pH (2-12), Contact time (5-120 min), Initial concentration (0.2-2.0 mg/l) and Mixing speed (10-70 rpm) on uptake was studied. The results indicate that the maximum As(Ⅲ) removal was 98.90% at an adsorbent dose of 10 g/l, contact time of 90 min, and mixing speed of 50 rpm, when initial adsorbate concentration and pH were 0.5 mg/l and 6 respectively. Based on linear regression analysis, at equilibrium conditions, the Freundlich isotherm constants (k, n) were 0.363 mg/g, 2.247 and the Langmuir isotherm constants (a, b) were 0.155 mg/g, 46.144 l/mg respectively.
