摘要

Genetic algorithm (GA) has been successfully used for optimal design of water distribution networks (WDNs) by considering link diameters as discrete variables. However, in case of a pumped WDN, pumping head is a continuous and pipe diameter is a discrete variable. An alternative formulation is suggested by considering unknown nodal heads and unknown pumping head as continuous variable for smoother convergence. The solution so obtained is compared with the recently developed software "JalTantra", available in public domain for the design of branched WDNs with pumps. The new formulation is observed to work well and resulted in slightly cheaper design.
