摘要

Filtration is a conventionally used technique to purify water, but nowadays to fulfill water demand of a huge global population it has to be modified. In this study, an attempt is made to improve the performance of a rapid sand filter (RSF). The modification is provided in the form of capping to filter. The capping media used are Anthracite coal (AC), Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) Granules and Crushed brick material (CBM). The experimental study is carried on a lab scale filter model. The filter run length, head loss, quality and quantity of water are analyzed. The media preparation and Experimental analysis of filter parameter are as per RSF guidelines. The results show, the capping for the rapid sand filter gives maximum output, more run length, less wastage of water at the time of backwash, and minimal head loss.
