Concept of multi village water supply schemes (MVWSS) is of recent origin. A system of drawing water from a source and conveying to many villages for drinking purpose is commonly termed as multi village water supply scheme. Large pipe network occupies in multi-village water supply system. Pumping or gravity system involves depending upon the topography with booster stations/balancing reservoirs. Common analogy in the hydraulic design of pipe network is simultaneously filling up of all the service reservoirs. But, operation of the multi-village schemes has two options: ⅰ). Simultaneous filling up of all service reservoirs and ⅱ) operator based operation (i.e one by one or two etc). Head dissipating devices / flow control valves are suggested for flow division at branch points in the first case. Experience indicates that the head dissipating/flow control devices seldom render expected goal due to various practical conditions. An operator has many numbers of operating choices in the operator based operation. Most of the multi-village schemes are practically operated by the operator based operation mode against the design of simultaneous filling. An attempt has been made to demonstrate the behavior of hydraulic parameters when operator based operation is followed. Insufficient pressure head results in the pipe network during operator based operation. Moreover, it is suggested to consider peak factor in the hydraulic design of pipe network. A check for the compatibility of pipe network for the realistic operation
