摘要

Water problems in China include an increasing amount of floods, droughts, and pollution; continuing shrinkage of agricultural land; silting-up of river channels; the decline of the water surface in coastal areas; and the longstanding problems of saltwater intrusion, limited water-quantity, and declining water-quality. Challenges in hydrologic research and water resources management may be faced by water-related professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders. Water resources development (adaptation, utilization, transformation, development, and protection of the water environment) is significantly influenced by climate change and human behavior. However, to date people are still in the process of learning about all aspects of water resources and the associated patterns of variability. The problems in China offer particular lessons in river basin management and sustainable development in an economically developing environment that is confronting challenges. Research on hydrologic change will certainly improve researchers' understanding of the causes of water security and provide wise water resources management strategies.
