Over the last several years, local housing agencies have been forced to overcome tremendous obstacles not only to sustain and preserve the existing inventory of affordable housing in their communities-housing made possible under the public housing, Section 8 HOME and low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) programs to name a few-but these same agencies are also on the front lines in the critical effort to address the well-documented but still unmet demand for new affordable housing.
