Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), who serves as Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and was first elected to the Senate in 1980, announced on Jan. 6 that he would not seek re-election in the 2010 mid-term elections. Upon announcing his retirement, Sen. Dodd said, "(ejvery six years over the past three decades, I have invited you to join me at our home to share in my decision to seek election and re-election to the United States Senate…What is different about today, however, is not to announce the beginning of yet another campaign for the Senate, but rather to announce that after 35 years of representing the people of Connecticut in the United States Congress, I will not be a candidate for re-election this November."
