摘要

A photojournalism project displayed at the Gordon Parks Gallery in New York put the spotlight on New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents in order to give a fresh face to public housing and its residents. We the People: The Citizens of NYCHA in Pictures + Words is the creation of journalist Rico Washington and photographer Shino Yanagawa. Both former NYCHA residents themselves, Washington and Yanagawa wanted the project to be a positive voice to counter the negative media and political discourse that often casts a shadow over public housing. We the People serves to debunk myths and preconceived notions that often held that "everyone who lives in these neighborhoods is on welfare or a criminal or living off the fat of the land," Washington told NY Daily News.
