Continuity of care can be defined as a long-termnpatient–physician relationship.1,2 It is typically discussednin the context of family physicians and, indeed,ncontinuity of care has often been described as a keynaspect of primary care. The benefits of continuity ofncare have been documented extensively. Particularlynwell supported is the relation between continuity ofncare and preventive health care, including cancernscreening3–8 and vaccination among both adults7,9nand children.10 Continuity of care has also been shownnto be related to reduced physician visits and emergencyndepartment visits.7,1
