Audit of submissions: July 2004 to June 2005

During the 10th year of the Journal, 133 unsolicitednmanuscripts (original research and essays) were submitted.nThe proportion from the UK (53%) was similarnto the preceding year, with 12% from the rest ofnEurope, 15% from North America and 14% fromnAustralia and New Zealand. At the end of Septembern2005, 24 (18%) had been accepted for publication, 102n(77%) had been rejected, and 7 (5%) have been invitednto submit a new version. At the outset we set ourselves antarget of informing authors of our initial decisionnwithin 12 weeks. Over the 10th year the mean time wasnnine weeks. For the 24 papers published in volume 10,nthe mean length of time between submission andnacceptance (including time to revise the manuscript)nwas 190 days (range 53–386) and between acceptancenand publication was 280 days (range 157–413).
