摘要

In the past decade, inquiry into sexual identity development has offered a greater understanding of the experiences reported by gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) youths over the life course (Cohler & Hammack, 20074. Cohler , B. J. and Hammock , P. L. 2007 . The psychological world of the gay teenager: Social change, narrative, and normality . Journal of Youth and Adolescence , 36 : 47 - 59 . [CrossRef], [Web of Science ®]View all references). While previous critiques of sexual development literature have resulted in greater support for many GLBT adolescents, we argue that the increases in acceptance and support afforded many sexual-minority teens are overall contextually dependent. In addition, clinicians working with GLBT youths in various contexts may be ill-equipped to provide the needed resources for this population of youths and families (Burgess, 19993. Burgess , C. 1999 . Internal and external stress factors associated with identity development of transgender youth . Journal of Gay & Lesbian Social Services , 10 ( 3/4 ) : 35 - 47 . [Taylor & Francis Online], [CSA]View all references). The Kite in Flight (Parker, Bermudez, & Neustifter, 200824. Parker , M. L. , Bermudez , J. M. and Neustifter , R. 2008 . Kite in flight: Girls’ identity and empowerment in dating relationships . Journal of Feminist Family Therapy , 19 ( 4 ) : 1 - 20 . [Taylor & Francis Online]View all references) model is a family therapy approach that has been examined for use with GLBT youths to address the need for more effective therapeutic approaches with this population. Specifically, this article will further explore contextual and environmental influences for use with the Kite in Flight family therapy approach. Included are transcripts from two case examples that illustrate the influence of contextual and environmental factors using the model.View full textDownload full textKEYWORDSadolescence, family therapy, GLBT youthsRelated var addthis_config = { ui_cobrand: "Taylor & Francis Online", services_compact: "citeulike, netvibes, twitter, technorati, delicious, linkedin, facebook, stumbleupon, digg, google, more", pubid: "ra-4dff56cd6bb1830b" }; Add to shortlist Link Permalink http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/1550428X.2011.592966
