摘要

The recovery of tropical creek Water Compartments along River Escravos in Delta State of Nigeria, grossly polluted with crude petroleum was monitored for a period of 72 weeks upon inoculation with c. utilize , a hydrocarbon utilizer, developed in cane molasses fortified with 15/100 v/v crude petroleum. In the Compartment A, which received the additional yeast culture, both dissolved oxygen (DO) and residual oil concentration (ROC) decreased rapidly over the period; also ROC gave a high but negative correlation coefficient (r=-0.96) with total hydrocarbon utilizers when compared with the results obtained for a similar Compartment B(r=-0.12) not inoculated serving as a surrogate of control under field conditions.
