Changing Address: Makers Roll Out Data Projectors From China

A gainst the backdrop of exceptionally rapid price reduction and the intensi-fying market competition between Japanese and Taiwanese manufacturers, Japanese firms are gearing up to shift data projector production to China where they can gain cost advantage. Manufacturers are also increasingly producing projectors in China for the local market to get around a 30 percent import duty levied on finished goods. They are also expanding production in China as a base for exporting units with scale merits, including low-priced models with SVGA resolution. Some Japanese manufacturers are already producing more than 90 percent of their total data projector output in China. The number of Japanese companies producing the majority of their projectors in China has been increasing.
