PND Displays Face Promising Growth

Shipments of small and medium LCD displays for portable navigation device (PND) are expected to double from 2007 to 2010 amid declining prices but rising demand and expansion of production capacity, said the U.S.-based research firm iSuppli Corp. The shipment for this LCD segment, which is defined by iSuppli as displays with diagonal dimensions of less than 10in, is expected to grow to 60.2 million units in 2010, or double the 30.6 million units recorded in 2007. In 2012, the shipment of the PND LCD is expected to rise further to 68 million units, for a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.3 percent starting 2007. The market's upbeat trend is expected to start this year, as shipment is expected to grow 43.6 million units in 2008, up 42.6 percent compared to the previous year.
