Chinese Disc Makers Speed up BD Adoption

According to Chinese media reports, 11 Chinese DVD manufacturers, including TCL, Malata, and Desay, have been recently authorized to use Blu-ray Disc (BD) technologies by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). The DVD makers will begin the development and production of next-generation DVD players and contents based on the BD technologies next year. With the participation of local companies, the development of BD/DVDs is expected to gradually gain speed in China. In February this year, the HD-DVD camp headed by Toshiba Corp. pulled out of the battle for next-generation DVD format. With this move, the BD group led by Sony Corp. practically became the winner in this arena, and has been accelerating efforts to expand global market promotions.
