Pioneer, Sharp Agree on Disc Development

Pioneer Corporation and Sharp Corporation agreed last June to establish a joint venture company on optical disc. The joint venture, where Pioneer will have a controlling stake, will be known as Pioneer Digital Design and Manufacturing Corporation. The goal of the new joint venture is to employ effectively the management resources of the two companies in the field of optical disc business. The cooperation also aims to expand further the business of the two companies in this area, especially in the highly promising Blu-ray disc market.
