Pioneer Corp. and Sharp Corp. have signed a joint-venture agreement in the optical disc business by merging their respective businesses into a new company, which is set to start operations by Oct. 1, 2009. The new company will engage in the development, design, manufacture, and sales of optical disc products, focusing on optical disc drives, recorders, and players.rnThe goal of the new joint venture is to make more effective use of the management resources of the two companies in the optical disc business field, and to capture a leadership position in this area, particularly in the Blu-ray Disc market.
